Los Angeles, CA 90039
Asking Price: $1,895,000 | 2 beds | 1 bath | 1,139 Sq. Ft.
Technically, 2344 Silver Lake Blvd. is a few houses down from both the Neutra VDL Studio and Residences, otherwise known as the Neutra Colony, but I am saying this stylish mid-century modern post & beam is Neutra-adjacent because the home is attributed to a disciple/colleague of Richard Neutra himself. I’d have to do a bit more digging to verify this but looking at the home and its sharp lines, open plan, and ribbon window system it all would appear to be, at the very least, inspired by the master architect himself.
The sophisticated two bedroom, one bathroom home is all but hidden from Silver Lake Boulevard on a quiet street-to-street lot. Just across the street you’ll find the relaxing Silver Lake Meadow and beyond that the Silver Lake Reservoir, the perfect place to go for a jog or walk your dog.
Upon entry, you are entry immediately greeted with a private and enchanting indoor/outdoor entertaining space. The covered patio is basically an outdoor living room and is the perfect spot to curl up with a good book or lounge with a group of friends and a bottle of wine. Notice the unique post and beam structure and the mix of wood, steel, concrete, and stone materials.
Inside, the main living room is a gorgeous and sunny spot. The space boasts French doors with outdoor access, a wood beamed ceiling, gorgeous wood beamed walls, polished concrete floors, and a classic brick fireplace. And, yes, it’s wood burning.
The house’s open plan has the dining room just off the living room and also has outdoor access to the pool and entertainer’s deck.
The kitchen is nearly as its architect designed it. While the cabinetry might just be original, the appliances have all been updated and are top-of-the-line stainless steel. The row of cabinets on the right offer just enough distance and privacy between the kitchen and the other living and dining spaces.
The master bedroom is romantic and one-of-a-kind with a comforting wood beamed ceiling, row of windows on side, clerestory windows on another, and a lovely floor-to-ceiling picture window with enchanting views of the backyard garden.
And, yes, the h0me – built in 1958 – has just one bath. But when a bath is this sleek and spacious, who can complain? The bath features plenty of storage and counter space and might just be the size of my first apartment in Los Angeles. It’s large.
The bath also includes a beautiful tiled soaking tub and shower.
The second bedroom is ideal for overnight guests or as a home office. Or, with the right interior design, both, to be honest.
The stone terraced backyard would make the perfect setting for dinner parties under the moonlight throughout almost the entire year.
There’s also an outdoor kitchen making entertaining friends and family all but effortless. And you will definitely make a lot of use with this barbecue and refrigerator too because…
…The new pool and spa is the ultimate respite from city living and is sure to be a favorite spot to relax and entertain every weekend or legit all the time.
The property also includes a safari tent/guest house and could possibly be converted in an additional dwelling unit. I’m told with the right research this home could also potentially become a historic landmark via a Mills Act application which would be great for property tax savings. The Mills Act application and researching the history of a home isn’t always easy, but I’m basically an expert at it it at this point so if you are interested in finding out more about that we should certainly get together and talk.
The safari tent is super cute. It could also make a wonderful pool house, artist’s studio, or writers retreat.
The home was recently stripped down to the studs which exposed the vertical siding and original details though lost over all these years. A full restoration has added modern upgrades only when necessary to keep the integrity of the home intact. For now, I’m not sure who the architect is, but with a little investigating I will find out. But what I do know, and what anyone’s eyes can tell, is that it’s a remarkable piece of architecture in an amazing Silver Lake location.
