4822 Sonata Lane
Los Angeles, CA 90042
$899,000 | 4 beds | 3 baths | 1,922 s.f. | Highland Park
Full disclosure: my staging company, The Eastside Staging Company, staged this gorgeous mid-century gem in Highland Park. So forgive me if I seem a little too in love with the place. But technically I got to move in for a couple of days so I feel like I know the house inside out.
From the outside you will see the home has been totally restored and modernized. It’s a stylish home on a romantically-named hillside street that optimizes a wide-ranging and unique mix of materials. You’ll love this iconic yellow door.
Inside you will find an open layout space with gorgeous hardwood floors, plenty of natural light, a black brick mid-century fireplace, and patio access.
We kept things classy with period appropriate mid-century furniture and design, with art by 1950s artists like Jasper Johns with a few modern day accents like these industrial bar stools and a portrait of Blondie frontwoman Debbie Harry.
The great eat-in kitchen has refurbished custom cabinetry, lots and lots of counter space, and stainless steel appliances.
The “formal” dining room is just off the kitchen and contains storage and patio access.
4822 Sonata has a sunny office space with separate outdoor access.
The first floor has a nicely sized full bath.
But it’s upstairs where the house might truly take you in. Up the hardwood staircase with a wrought-iron railing you’ll find a wonderful open hallway with delicious wood built-ins perfect for storage and displaying your favorite books and decor.
The home’s four bedrooms are all up top. This is the master suite. The suite has ample closet space and calming hillside views that create a feeling of absolute seclusion and privacy.
The en suite master bath has been redone in a pleasing series of earth tones. While seriously stylish, this home never feels as if it’s trying too hard.
The second bedroom boasts views of the Highland Park neighborhood. Notice that vintage-style HER movie poster print. Did you see that movie? Directed by Spike Jonze in – when was it? – 2013? It was one of my favorites of that year.
Then there’s the third and fourth bedrooms, both equally sized and full of natural light. Also, if you haven’t noticed yet, the house is full of designer light fixtures.
The three guest (or children’s) bedrooms share a spacious hall bath remodeled in the same chic shades as the master’s.
The home includes both front and backyard entertaining areas. The backyard space juts out against the lush hillside and feels private and remote.
The front yard is an amazing spot for enjoying treetop vies and the canyon’s lovely sunsets.
4822 Sonata Lane is located in that sweet spot in Highland Park between both York and Figueroa Boulevards, not to mention great hikes and the Self-Realization Fellowship in Mt. Washington. Near the Metro Gold Line (soon to be renamed the J Line…), Occidental College, Cafe de Leché, Hermosillo, Rosie Bunny Bean, Kitchen Mouse, Cafe Birdie, Ramen of York, Highland Park Bowl, Kinship Yoga, Civil Coffee, Triple Beam Pizza, and so, so much more.
