There’s a debate raging online right now whether this super cute 2 bedroom cottage is located in Highland Park or Eagle Rock. Okay, it’s not exactly raging online, but people are discussing it. What do you think?
The Eastside Staging Company, my staging company, was lucky to be chosen to stage this unique beauty so we made several trips to the house via both York and Colorado Boulevards. It feels pretty smack-dab in the middle between the neighborhoods, but I think Eagle Rock ultimately wins out, but just barely.
You enter 6036 Eucalyptus Lane from your own 2 car driveway and you are greeted by a sunny foyer, which boasts a large picture window, brick accent wall with a mantel, and a great coat closet. In fact, the whole house is sunny including the main living room. The nice space features hardwood floors.
The kitchen includes a nice eat-in area for two.
Plus a designated dining area, vintage stove, stainless steel fridge, ample storage, and another large picture window.
The first floor bedroom feel very calm and tranquil. Surrounded by greenery, it somehow just gives off that vibe.
The home’s sole bath is really charming, with a clawfoot tub, vintage shelving, and wainscoting. I love a good wainscot, don’t you?
Step down to to the lower level which includes the sunroom of your dreams.
Really. This sunroom has wall-to-wall windows and not one but two sets of French doors that allow easy outdoor access to your two distinct outdoor areas.
First the cozy front courtyard, which also has direct access to the driveway. It’s a great place for morning coffee or tea.
The second set of French doors leads to your shaded backyard.
The low-maintenance backyard is a peaceful little private retreat with a great pergola for shade.
What makes this lower level sunroom so fantastic is the entertaining potential. Just a few steps down from the kitchen, imagine opening both sets of French doors, allowing that cool mountain cross breeze, and having people over to enjoy the whole space: sunroom, courtyard, backyard. It really creates that Los Angeles indoor/outdoor flow that is important to so many of us these days.
The lower level bedroom is quite larger than the first an contains plenty of storage space.
This great cozy cottage is located near a set of secret stairs and was once described by urban historian Charles Fleming in Secret Stairs of Los Angeles as, “Topanga Canyon living in the heart of Eagle Rock.”
Since 6036 Eucalyptus is located in that sweet spot between Highland Park and Eagle Rock, the next buyer will be able to enjoy the conveniences of both. Grocery shopping at nearby Von’s, Organix, or Trader Joe’s. Dinners and nightlife on York or Figueroa or Colorado including restaurants and bars Little Beast, Hermosillo, Cote Est, Cafe Birdie, Eagle Rock Wine. Morning coffee runs at Cafe de Leche, Cindy’s, or Swork. Oh and I did I mention my favorite cheese shop in LA, Milkfarm, is just down the way?
There’s so much to love about this place. Let’s go see it!
