I have been fascinated by The Chateau for many years and now I finally have the chance to go inside and take a look. This 9 bedroom, nearly 3 acre estate is known to locals in Northeast Los Angeles as The Chateau. It is the largest estate in Eagle Rock and one of Los Angeles’s most prestigious estates.
The gated park-like property consists of 5942 square foot main house, three guest houses, outdoor ”Bistro Cafe”, a croquet court, large pool, spa, fire pits, fountains, greenhouse, rose gardens, walkways, koi ponds, and so much more. The Chateau has been the site of United States presidential addresses, weddings, festivals, family sporting events and with room for 40+ cars to park on site, the sky’s the limit with entertaining at The Chateau.
The home was built in 1927 by the founder of the Bekins moving company, the gated park-like property is on Hill Drive was last sold in 1965 to Eastern European immigrants Emanuel and Maria Kvassay. Inside the 4 bedroom main house, you are greeted by a grand master staircase. And I mean grand.
The living room has rows of windows on either side so the home has plenty of bright light. There are period details throughout, including original hardwood floors, arched entryways, amazing crown molding, and this wonderful fireplace and hearth that will immediately make you want to gather your friends and family around for a night of cocktails and storytelling.
One of the best attributes of The Chateau are the commanding views from seemingly every room.
The Chateau, of course, boasts an elegant formal dining room for special occasions. But with a row of French doors opening to outside the formal dining room feels a lot less stuffy than most.
The spacious kitchen has all stainless steel appliances, open and enclosed storage, a huge barn sink, and great views of the Eagle Rock hillside.
There’s also a super cute dine-in booth for breakfast and casual get togethers (or after school homework).
On the main floor there’s also pantry, an office, laundry room, one bedroom, and plenty of alcoves and hidden spaces waiting for the right buyer’s imagination and unique touch. Now let’s move on upstairs.
The master suite is serious spacious, with windows on two sides that let in that cool Eagle Rock breeze.
The master has an en suite bath, with both a soaking tub and a walk-in shower.
Two more bedrooms complete the upper floor.
And I wasn’t lying about the property’s myriad entertaining spaces. The main house features a a lower level bar and lounge, complete with bar seating and wine storage.
Next to the bar and lounge is a game and billiards room. Far enough away from the sleeping quarters, this space was made for late nights. It’s the speakeasy of your dreams, right at your home.
Outside the grounds are quite a sight to see. The pool and spa area feels the way a completely private resort should.
The grounds are lush, fully manicured, and park-like. They reminded me a lot of the nearby Huntington Gardens. There’s simply a lot to explore and plenty of pathways to get lost in.
If you have always wanted to hone your green thumb, The Chateau’s greenhouse is the place to do it.
There’s also several shaded unique structures designed for relaxing and taking in the property’s secluded setting. And then there’s this fire pit, perfect for evening smores.
The property’s three guest houses are each all-inclusive, with bathrooms, kitchens, and represent 2,954 square feet.
The outdoor “Bistro Cafe” offers plenty of entertaining opportunities, whether the chef of the house would like to cook and dine al fresco or if you’re bringing in an outside caterer for a special event.
The Chateau in Eagle Rock is a stunning and majestic property unlike any other in Northeast LA or, truthfully, anywhere in Los Angeles.
